QED Announces New ‘Ruby Anniversary Evolution’ An ‘Audiophile’ Speaker Cable At A ‘Popular’ Price

QED is very pleased to introduce a new, very high performance speaker cable, designated ‘Ruby Anniversary Evolution’.

Jack Fox, QED’s Brand Manager stated:

“The new Ruby Anniversary Evolution is an outstanding loudspeaker cable, yet has a recommended retail price of only £5.95 per metre. At this low cost, we believe it delivers unprecedented performance and value and will become the new reference standard for this segment. It utilises technology from QED’s renowned ‘high end’ Genesis and X-TubeTM cables and celebrates our 40 years at the forefront of UK speaker cable design.”

Advanced Cable Geometry

Ruby Anniversary Evolution utilises advanced cable geometry to reduce the colouration (signal degradation) typically experienced when using conventional speaker cables of a similar size(1) and price. This colouration is caused by ‘skin effect’ the phenomenon whereby electrical signals of certain frequencies only travel at or near the surface of a conductor and therefore constantly ‘jump’ between conductors in multi-strand cable designs. Its audible manifestation is a poorer representation of a three dimensional ‘soundstage’ as well as a perception of ‘harshness’ to the sound.

Ruby Anniversary Evolution minimises this problem by configuring its 99.999% Pure Oxygen Free Copper strands into five individually isolated bunches around a LDPE(2) core. In addition, performance is further optimised by manufacturing three of these bunches from 0.203mm strands and the other two from 0.146mm strands.

Impedance and Sound Quality

The resultant speaker cable; which exhibits both low inductance (below that which would be expected of a traditional speaker cable of the same cross-sectional area) and very low capacitance, exudes sonic neutrality, allowing good hi-fi and home cinema equipment to perform at its very best.

The cable is a conventional ‘figure 8′ configuration and is attractively finished, with each of the ten copper ‘bunches’ visible through a flexible 5.0mm diameter, clear polyethylene outer sheath. For ease of assembly, and to ensure correct speaker ‘phasing’, the ‘positive’ core is clearly marked and the whole cable is easily stripped and crimped(3) into the recommended QED ‘Airloc’ loudspeaker plugs.

Suggested Retail Price: £5.95 per metre (including vat @ 20%)

Availability: September 2013 from QED authorised dealers worldwide.

QED Launches ‘uPlay Plus’ Wireless Bluetooth Reciever

The new QED uPlay Plus (pronounced ‘yoo-play’) is a discreet Bluetooth Hi-Fi Receiver which incorporates the latest Bluecore 5 chipset and supports advanced ‘aptX®’ audio coding.

QED is a brand of Armour Home. Bob Abraham, the Founder of QED, stated:

“One of the key benefits of owning a smartphone or laptop is the ability to use it as a Personal Entertainment Device (PED). The combination of stored music, videos and games; together with a plethora of streamed content, especially music services from the internet, has transformed the way people access media.”

Mr Abraham continued: “What is the best way to enjoy this content and wirelessly deliver a very high quality music stream to your sound system? Bluetooth is the only truly universal option because it is available on all smartphones, tablets and the like. And now, thanks to Bluetooth ‘aptX®’, you can enjoy wireless, streamed music with CD quality sound. The ‘uPlay Plus’ seamlessly switches between the standard Bluetooth ‘SBC’ Codec and ‘aptX®’, depending on the transmission source and enables true wireless connectivity of a portable device to your favourite sound system.”

For users seeking to truly maximise audio quality, the uPlay Plus boasts a digital optical output, allowing the direct connection to either an amplifier or receiver with a digital input, or an upmarket stand alone DAC (digital to analogue converter). Naturally the uPlay Plus also boasts its own onboard low distortion DAC, which promises less than 0.035% distortion, and stereo analogue outputs, making it ideally suited to connect to an existing hi-fi system, home theatre system or even the better quality iPod docks, fitted with an ‘Aux’ or optical input socket.
