X-TUBE TECHNOLOGY

At low frequencies both X-Tubetm and conventional stranded/solid core speaker cables convey signals in a linear way.

However, at high frequencies, the current flow in standard speaker cables is highest at the periphery, with rapidly deteriorating current density towards the centre of the conductor.

The effect of this is to reduce the actual cross sectional area of the cable at 15kHz to less than 75% of that at low frequencies. This results in higher distortion and compromises the performance of the cable.

At the same high frequencies, X-Tubetm retains a near-linear signal transfer because its polycore technology exhibits much lower self-inductance and is therefore less affected by this problem. The polycore technology reduces loop inductance to levels only achievable using more costly and difficult to terminate cables.

The result is more high frequency detail, less distortion and greater performance.


AIRCORE TECHNOLOGYtm

QED cables above 2.5mm2 cross sectional area utilize air core technology to obviate the skin effect by bundling several separately insulated smaller cores together to make up a larger CSA. If these conductors are arranged around a hollow central core of polyethylene the self inductance exhibited by the cable can be reduced to around half that predicted by calculation.


QED AIRLOCtm PLUGS

QED developed AIRLOC a solder-free, airtight perfect fusion between the two metals of cable and plug. This 'cold weld' method allows the cable and plug to offer the optimum signal transfer and therefore, better sound quality. It also reduces contact resistance and ensures perfect long-term performance.

QED Loom Combination Is Group Test Winner In Hi-Fi Choice



In the August edition of Hi-Fi Choice Magazine they conducted a group test combining interconnects and speaker cables. As part of the test they tested the QED Reference Audio 40 and the QED Signature Revelation.

The result of the test was that our QED combination were the Hi-Fi Choice Group Test Winner with an overall ‘5 Star’ verdict. The test looked at the technology that went into the cables, and many commented on its “clean, open, even sound.” When the QED combination were hooked up and an REM tune came on, it was described as “head and shoulders better” and who are we to disagree.

QED Reference Audio 40 Achieves '5 Star' Review From What Hi-Fi? Magazine


The QED Reference Audio 40 is part of the line of interconnects brought out to celebrate 40 years of QED. It has been reviewed in the June issue of What Hi-Fi? Magazine. The What Hi-Fi? review was a great success and gave the cable a ‘5 Star’ rating. In the review it talks about how the cable was used with one of the Lady Gaga tracks, and explains how the Reference Audio 40 really brings out the dynamics and nuances of the track.

QED At The High End Show In Munich


QED were at the High End Show in Munich on the 15th– 18th May. We had lots of our QED products on show and had a uPlay Stream set up so that you were even able to see how it works, and get a demonstration from our Brand Manager Jack Fox.

Signature Audio 40 '5 Star' Review In Hi-Fi Choice Magazine


The QED Signature Audio 40 is the newest interconnect in the QED Signature range. It has recently been reviewed in the April issue of Hi-Fi Choice where it received a stunning review. QED Announces New ‘Ruby Anniversary Evolution’ An ‘Audiophile’ Speaker Cable At A ‘Popular’ Price

Advanced Cable Geometry


Ruby Anniversary Evolution utilises advanced cable geometry to reduce the colouration (signal degradation) typically experienced when using conventional speaker cables of a similar size(1) and price. This colouration is caused by ‘skin effect’ the phenomenon whereby electrical signals of certain frequencies only travel at or near the surface of a conductor and therefore constantly ‘jump’ between conductors in multi-strand cable designs. Its audible manifestation is a poorer representation of a three dimensional ‘soundstage’ as well as a perception of ‘harshness’ to the sound.

Ruby Anniversary Evolution minimises this problem by configuring its 99.999% Pure Oxygen Free Copper strands into five individually isolated bunches around a LDPE(2) core. In addition, performance is further optimised by manufacturing three of these bunches from 0.203mm strands and the other two from 0.146mm strands.

Impedance and Sound Quality


The resultant speaker cable; which exhibits both low inductance (below that which would be expected of a traditional speaker cable of the same cross-sectional area) and very low capacitance, exudes sonic neutrality, allowing good hi-fi and home cinema equipment to perform at its very best.

Appearance


The cable is a conventional ‘figure 8′ configuration and is attractively finished, with each of the ten copper ‘bunches’ visible through a flexible 5.0mm diameter, clear polyethylene outer sheath. For ease of assembly, and to ensure correct speaker ‘phasing’, the ‘positive’ core is clearly marked and the whole cable is easily stripped and crimped(3) into the recommended QED ‘Airloc’ loudspeaker plugs.
