PERFORMANCE RUBY ANNIVERSARY

Ruby Anniversary is a completely new design from the QED laboratories in celebration of FORTY years at the forefront of UK speaker cable design. It utilizes the technologies of both Genesis and X-Tube cables and combines them in a new miniature format to bring high end cable philosophies to the budget Hi-fi market.

Every inch of cable which separates the amplifier from its speakers, adversely affects its ability to control them properly because it is not possible for it to compensate for the added impedance of the speaker cable. The result is that the fidelity of the system is compromised due to the non linear affect the cable has on the frequency response of the speakers.

To minimise this problem most manufacturers have encouraged the use of large cross-sectional area speaker cables - because this is an easy way of reducing the resistance of any given length of cable and therefore minimising its impact on the sound compared to a thinner cable.

Unfortunately, at high frequencies the current flows more and more towards the outside of the conductor, thus lowering its effective cross-sectional area. This is known as the skin effect and the resistive part of the cable impedance can rise by as much as 50% within the audible frequency band, as shown by the blue line in the graph above right.

Attenuation of the high frequencies compromises the fidelity of the sound - a problem then compounded by the complex variations in speaker impedance at and away from resonance.

With the introduction of Ruby Anniversary Speaker Cable, QED have been able to largely overcome this perennial problem through the application of our unique Aircore™ technology - first introduced in our award winning Genesis cable. The red line on the graph shows how effective our carefully calculated geometry is at reducing the skin effect on cables of similar cross-sectional area. You can see that the resistance of the cable is hardly affected within the audio band (up to 22kHz) and only starts to rise once frequencies are well beyond the scope of human hearing.
